Dog Diagnostic Imaging

Dog diagnostic imaging uses advanced technologies like X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI to examine a dog's internal organs, bones, and soft tissues. It helps veterinarians accurately diagnose injuries, illnesses, and abnormalities without invasive procedures. Early and precise imaging supports faster treatment and better health outcomes for pets.

Dog diagnostic imaging uses advanced technologies—digital X-rays, ultrasound, and specialized radiography—to see inside your dog's body without invasive procedures. At Steel Town Vet, imaging is performed in-house by our diagnostic and surgical team, with results available the same day for most cases. This means faster answers and quicker decisions about treatment.

Why It Matters

Diagnostic imaging is recommended when a dog shows signs of pain, difficulty walking, breathing problems, abdominal symptoms, or injuries that need closer evaluation. It's also used before surgery to assess your dog's condition, for post-adoption intake screening, and to monitor recovery from treatment or illness.

Steel Town Vet sees a high volume of working and sport dogs from the Dundas and Ancaster trail areas, where cruciate, shoulder, and carpal injuries are common. We also perform intake imaging for rescue partners—often the first detailed look a dog has ever had. Seasonal patterns matter too: escarpment trail season brings paw and limb trauma, and winter road salt drives ingestion cases. In all these situations, same-day imaging lets you move forward with confidence.

How We Help

Our imaging services include digital radiography for bones, joints, chest, and abdomen; musculoskeletal evaluation for orthopedic concerns; foreign-body and ingestion imaging; dental radiography (performed during cleaning appointments so you make one trip); and pre-surgical assessment. Dr. Nadia Bemba, our diagnostic imaging and emergency medicine specialist, reads all radiographs in-house. Dr. Colin Wrigley reviews any case with a surgical question attached.

We keep walk-in imaging slots open because many cases arrive unplanned—trauma, sudden illness, or urgent concerns don't always fit a scheduled appointment. Erin MacAulay, our radiography lead, and Sam Oduya work with the veterinary team to ensure your dog is positioned safely and imaging is completed efficiently.

If your dog needs imaging, call +1 (707) 448-1645 to discuss your dog's symptoms and schedule an appointment. We serve Hamilton, Dundas, Ancaster, Stoney Creek, Waterdown, Burlington, and Grimsby.
